The course provides a basic understanding of the machine-level architecture of a digital computer . The course develops understanding of the relationship between the architecture of a computer system and the facilities provided by the  instruction set. It also develops skills in using an assembly language. Subjects covered include, addressing modes, instruction types, flow of control, parameter passing mechanism, interrupts, processor states, memory protection, macros, linking and loading.
Special condition: COMP 222.
