How to Solve It
Hacker Ethic:
  • How do we create a “socially sustainable & responsible global information society”? (Pekka Himanen)
    • What does this mean?
  • "Cracker" movement
  • Building New Communities
PLEASE NOTE: These links are starting points only and not the only sources you should discover. Make liberal use of search engines, books and other resources to find information for your projects.

Each person:
make a VERY SHORT and UNIQUE (no two postings the same) post on the weblog about the following.
Write these IN YOUR OWN WORDS, do not copy and paste.
  • Define Hacker Ethic in your own words, do NOT use copy and paste, this should be a UNIQUE (no two words the same) definition.
  • One new UNIQUE (no two words the same) word of vocabulary belonging to the Hacker Ethic. Think about what the vocabulary word means and then write what you think it means.
  • One significant and UNIQUE (no two people the same) hacker or author  of "hackerdom" or the hacker culture or hacker ethic.
    • What did they do or become famous for and when did they do it?
    • Why were these people were important to the Hacker Ethic?
In addition to your weblog posting, bring to class for discussion a short, informal, written paragraph or two which you can use as examples in our discussions about these people, things or events.

With these short writings you can tell us what your significant hacker or author did or became famous for.  Tell why you believe this person was important to the evolution and progress of the Hacker Ethic.
Try to include something you found interesting or important to the culture of hackers and the Hacker Ethic.
